A day-trip to Nafplion

While staying in Athens, there are many great destinations to see and admire in a fairly close distance from the Greek capital. One of the most tranquil cities in the country that displays its mesmerizing beauty graciously is Nafplion. Once being the first capital city of the independent Greek state, the city showcases its medieval character, enthralling visitors senses. Located on the eastern side of Peloponnese, Nafplion is only a two-hour drive from Athens. You can get there by bus or car since there is no railway connection.
Strolling in its lanes is a must; you will definitely come across some elegant shops to find whimsical mementos or fine garments, to take a piece of Nafplion back home. Neoclassical mansions, Venetian edifices, exciting museums and large squares dot the territory giving prominence to its distinct character. Due to town’s strategic position, three remarkable fortresses occupy the area, the massive principal fortress of Palamidi, the smaller Akronafplia and Bourtzi, situated on an islet west of the old town. The visitor can also relish a refreshing coffee or tipple in one the many bars and cafes that constitute Nafplion a vibrant city with intense nightlife.
Nearby you can conveniently find amazing beaches. Head to Tolo, a peaceful fishing village, just twelve kilometers away from Nafplion, where Psilli Ammos beach lies. The beachfront features water-sports facilities, while nearby you can find tavernas to eat the catch of the day. Seafood and grilled meat are delicacies you cannot miss out.
Karathona beach is very popular among the locals, as it’s situated only six kilometers away from Nafplion. The beach is four kilometers long and offers a broad spectrum of cafes and restaurants to repose, after a long day on the beach.
