Olympic Flame Lit in Olympia, Destined to Travel to Rio for Olympic Games 2016

Ancient Olympia is the home of the Olympic Games. Ever since antiquity, the Greeks gathered in this area for celebrating the games. They even stopped warship throughout the Olympic Games, which is something that highlights most eloquently the importance of fighting for victory among athletes. In absolute glory, the games were held in Olympia and the winners were then welcomed in their city-state as true heroes.

In this very same place, the Olympic Flame was lit again on 21st April, 2016. The spirit of Ancient Greece was celebrated in a magnificent ceremony and the priestess of the Temple passed on the torch to Greek athlete, Eleftherios Petrounias. The flame will travel half the world, reaching Rio in Brazil for the Olympic Games of this summer. On 27th April, 2016, Panathenaic Stadium in Athens (also known as Kallimarmaro) will welcome the flame. Back in 1896, the first Modern Olympic Games were held there and the atmosphere in the stadium will be purely magical.

Rio will host the Olympic Games from 5th to 21st August, 2016. Athletes from well over 200 countries will be there, to honor the ancient tradition and pay tribute to the spirit of the games. From Ancient Olympia, athletes were inspired to compete with strength and honor, dignity and with every talent they had. They put all their strengths to achieve greatness, so as to be remembered always as heroic personalities. This is the epitome of sportsmanship, a concept that was born in Greece and has survived throughout the centuries.

Our warmest wishes go to all the athletes who will honor the Olympic Games once more. Ancient Greece shows the way and the rest of the world celebrates the immortal, eternal idea of the Olympic Games!
